Aboriginal rights activist, Australia
This is Gary Foley. This photo was taken in 1971 during the Springbok tour of Australia. For more info about the history of the Aboriginal rights struggle, check out The Koori History Website, an amazing resource, that Gary created and read more about the story behind this photo.
I want to recreate this picture SOOOO bad!
Yep!
Would it be bad of me and my queer Indigenous friend to recreate this as ‘Pardon Me For Being Born Into A Nation Of Racists and Homophobes?’
My Grandmother and her family suffered as result of the Stolen Generations. It still affects my family. I don’t know who her people are, I don’t even know where she lives now. I know she’s a chronic alcoholic who can’t hold down a job. She might be dead. I don’t know. I feel like a racist nearly every day of my life as a result.
I might be ridiculously white and therefore not exactly qualified to talk about racism, but I think queers, PoC and especially queer PoC can and should work together to eliminate oppression.
